Commonwealth of Virginia’s Compensation Board in collaboration with Virginia Department of Corrections win the COVITS – Technology Award for the Virginia CORIS® Local Inmate Data System (LIDS)

Montreal, Friday, September 13th, 2013 – Abilis congratulates its customers, Virginia’s Compensation Board (SCB) and the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) on receiving the prestigious 2013 COVITS (Commonwealth of Virginia’s Innovative Technology Symposium) Award in the “IT as Efficiency Driver – Government to Government” category for the Virginia CORIS-LIDS project. Abilis is extremely proud of being the IT partner on this project.

The Compensation Board, in extensive collaboration with VADOC initiated discussions in 2011 to develop a system which would replace the legacy Local Inmate Data System (LIDS). The new system has functionality built into VirginiaCORIS OMS, the enterprise offender management system used by VADOC.

The VirginiaCORIS system is a web-based application built on SQL Server and .NET technology that allows 13,000 users within the Department as well as local jails, the State Police and national public safety agencies such as ATF, and the FBI, to record and track over 100,000 active offenders incarcerated by the Commonwealth and within community corrections. With the assistance of the Department of Planning and Budget, and the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA), an agreement was struck in April 2012 to develop LIDS functionality within the VirginiaCORIS system. This collaboration allowed the Compensation Board to modernize their application using an existing platform to reduce development costs and provide a replacement solution faster and within limited budgetary constraints.
